The Cité du Design
Set in the former Weapon Manufactory, the Cité du Design has become the city’s creative beacon. Its striking Platine building, with a triangulated glass skin, hosts exhibitions, schools and workshops. Every two years, the International Design Biennial draws visitors and creators from around the world. An ideal venue for a curious date, nicely extended in the Manufacture district’s cafés.
Place Jean-Jaurès and the Grand’Église
Spacious and shaded with plane trees, Place Jean-Jaurès is Saint-Étienne’s true living room. You take a terrace seat, enjoy summer concerts and watch life unfold around the Grand’Église with its neo-Gothic façade. Nearby streets Michelet, des Martyrs or de la République concentrate shops and friendly bars: the perfect starting point for an evening in town together.
The Modern and Contemporary Art Museum
To the north, the MAMC+ owns one of the finest collections of modern and contemporary art in France: Picasso, Monory, Dubuffet, plus design and photography. Its black, industrial-lined architecture echoes the old mines. A date both serious and joyful, nicely concluded over a drink. On Lyad, Saint-Étienne members share their favourites; it is up to you to pick one together.
